About Ashtons Direct

Ashtons Direct – based in the tourism capital of the world, Cape Town, South Africa and serving tourism since 1993.

The originators of the company, Derek and Ethnee Iles, took their family on several motorhome holidays in Europe during the late 80’s and early 90’s and developed a love for this free-wheeling type of holiday. This, together with their outdoor camping and caravanning holidays in sunny South Africa, convinced them to find a way to offer this holiday concept to others; Motorhome Abroad was launched in 1993. At that point there were only two options, a small company in England and the newly founded Deutsche Reisemobil (DRM) in Germany. The internet was very much in its infancy, as was email, which limited contacts to telephone and fax, with advertising mainly by brochure.

Many years and visits to foreign countries later, the company became Ashtons Direct and now offers motorhome, campervan and RV rental in Germany, Holland, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Australia and New Zealand. South Africa itself was not neglected and motorhome, 4x4 and car rental is also offered to incoming visitors to South Africa. How the world has changed! Ashtons is now solidly internet based, operating 16 online web sites and communicating via email, skype and the World Wide Web. Ethnee and Derek are still involved as working directors and their son Andrew is now CEO of the company. There is a fully staffed central reservations office, web site and administration departments and latterly a new branch in Sydney, Australia.

Over the years our international suppliers have become friends. Long standing arrangements with business partners have become warm, mutually beneficial relationships, with all parties focused on the well being and satisfaction of our clients from around the world.

Ashtons Tours and Safaris, South Africa was launched a few years ago and operates safaris in the greater Kruger area and also the famous Garden Route of the Cape southern coast.
